Physician Profiles

Dr. John M. Kampine

John received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. He completed his anesthesia residency at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Conn., and is board certified in anesthesiology. He went on to do his pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Children's National Medical Center in Washington D.C. John served as an assistant professor of anesthesia at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin from 1991 to 1999. He is the medical director of the Texas Pediatric Surgery Center in North Richland Hills, Texas. He also serves as medical director of pediatric cardiac anesthesia services for the Congenital Heart Surgery Program at Medical City Children's Hospital.

Dr. Red Starks

Red holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin and a doctorate from the University of Texas Medical School in San Antonio. He completed post-graduate training in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania and is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. Red came to Dallas to practice after finishing a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Boston. He plays a critical role in the pediatric cardiac anesthesia heart catheterization services at Medical City Children's Hospital. He has also taught anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard.

Dr. Annie Kahn

Annie chose the University of Texas Medical School at Houston for both her medical degree and residency. A native of Irving, Texas, she returned to the area for a fellowship in pediatric anesthesia through the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School/Cook Children's Hospital. Dr. Kahn is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Her special interests within pediatric anesthesia include craniofacial surgery and neuroanesthesia.

Dr. Bruce E. Fitzgerald

Bruce is a graduate of the University of Texas Medical School in Houston and completed his anesthesiology residency training at Tulane Medical Center. While on the clinical anesthesia faculty at The Children's Hospital in New Orleans, he served as residency coordinator for the combined Tulane/LSU anesthesia programs. Bruce returned to his hometown of Dallas in 2000. He's a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Jennifer Dagen

Jennifer, a Dallas native, received her undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Texas at Dallas and completed medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. Following anesthesiology residency training at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla., she completed a pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at the University of Colorado/Denver Children's Hospital. Jennifer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Her special interests include pediatric regional anesthesia and neuroanesthesia.

Dr. John Thorne

John received his undergraduate and doctorate degrees from the University of Kansas after serving four years as a helicopter technician in the U.S. Army. He completed his post-graduate training in anesthesiology and fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. John's special interests include pediatric cardiac anesthesia and post-operative pain management.

Dr. Ashli Zerby

Ashli received her undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences from Texas A&M in College Station, Texas and her medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. She did her residency training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, and at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Dr. Zerby also completed her pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center/Children's Medical Center. Dr. Zerby is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Bryan Harris

Bryan attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming where he received a Bachelor of Science in zoology and physiology. He received his medical degree from the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah. He completed his residency training at the University of California, San Diego, where he was selected as Chief Resident. Dr. Harris completed his pediatric anesthesiology fellowship at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Susan Smith

Susan, a Houston native, graduated from Southern Methodist University and returned to Houston to complete her medical degree at the University of Texas at Houston. She chose Baylor College of Medicine in Houston to complete her anesthesia residency training and went on to do her pediatric anesthesia fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. She was a staff anesthesiologist at Washington University, the Children's Hospital of St. Louis for two years and later returned to Dallas. Her special interests within pediatric anesthesia include craniofacial surgery. Dr. Smith is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Dr. Ryan Smith

Ryan received his undergraduate degree in biology from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas and his medical degree from University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his residency in pediatrics at UT Southwestern and Children's Medical Center Dallas and served as an Assistant Professor there for 2 years prior to his residency in anesthesiology at UT Southwestern and Parkland. He remained in Dallas for his pediatric anesthesia fellowship training at UTSW and Children's Medical Center. In addition to being a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, he is board certified in pediatrics. Dr. Smith serves as a liaison for Medical Missions, and is involved in the Baylor Foundation Inner Circle.

Dr. Chris Clarke

Chris holds his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Southern California where he studied Biomedical/Electrical Engineering in the Honors program. He completed a surgical internship from Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA and an anesthesia residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MA. Dr. Clarke spent his pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Children's Medical Center in Washington, DC and came to Texas in 1999 to practice anesthesia. He has served as Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at UT Southwestern and at the Uniformed Services University of Health Science. Dr. Clarke was a Presidential Scholar and a past member of Editorial Board of the USC Journal of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and a member of the National board of Medical Examiners.
